Buckingham Palace which  is the official London residence of The Queen, also doubles as the administrative headquarters of the British monarchy. The Palace apart from being a major tourist attraction hosts state occasions and royal entertaining.
Buckingham Palace was originally known as Buckingham House, the building which today forms the heart of the present palace was earlier a large townhouse which was built in 1703 for the Duke of Buckingham. The building was subsequently acquired in 1762 by King George III for use as a private residence. There is a garden at the back of the Palace is the biggest private garden in London. It is here that the Queen hosts her annual garden parties each summer. The Changing of the Guard which takes place at the Buckingham Palace is a big draw with the tourists.
